For a few short hours on the 30th of September, parents got a glimpse of what it is like to be a part of the USP community.
Madam Helen Siew, a freshman’s parent, commented: “It was good that we could see the living environment here.”
The annual event which started when USP first moved to UTown aims to give parents a glimpse of life in Cinnamon college as well as open up communication channels with these parents.
Parents began arriving at 6.30pm where they were brought on tours around the college and the greater UTown by Cinnamon’s own USAmbassadors.
Parent of another year one student, Madam Tan Mei Mei said: “It was nice to be shown the different facilities around here because my son definitely wouldn’t have done that.”
A discussion session was also held in Chatterbox where Professor Kang Hway Chuan, Director of USP gave an introduction to the brief history of USP and opened the floor to questions from parents curious about what their children have been doing for the past two months.
He said: “The event is meant to make sure parents understand what we are doing in this programme,”
“It was also intended as a signal to parents to start conversations with us as we rarely get to talk to parents other than at open house.”
But the highlight of the night had to be the “food-tasting” session, where parents got a taste of the daily cuisine offered here at Cinnamon college. Madam Siew said: “I liked that I can try what she’s eating.”
Madam Tan said: “(The night) definitely gave better insight, better overview of life here.”
Below are a few photos capturing the night’s activities:
